For the 150th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation, the geographical center of Switzerland was on the Älggi-Alp determined. The Älggi-Alp is located at 1650 meters above sea level.

getting there

The Älggi-Alp can be reached by car, mountain bike or on foot.

In the street

The Älggi-Alp is from Sachseln to reach out. Sachseln is on the A8 (Lucerne - Sarnen - Brünig Interlaken route). From Sachseln it goes to the destination via Älggistrasse. The last part of the route can only be used alternately on weekends and public holidays (in the even hours ascent and in the odd hours the descent). Directions from Flüeli-Ranft: via Wolfisbergstrasse, the last part corresponds to the approach to Sachseln.

By train

Sachseln can be reached from Lucerne with the Brünig Railway in just under 40 minutes. From there you can continue on foot or by bike.

From Sachseln train station:

  • Sachseln - Seeweg - Zollhaus - Kleine Melchaa Gorge - Älggi (4 hours 30 minutes)
  • Sachseln - Edisried - Obstocken - Rindel - Älggi (3 hours 30 minutes)

Bike

  • Sachseln (SBB train station) - Edisried - Obstocken - Flüeli Ranft junction - Rindel Rafgarten - Äelggi-Alp (approx. 2 hours) [1]
