Generally
THE Athanasios Diakos (Ano Mousounitsa until 1959) is built at an altitude of 1,050 meters on the eastern slopes of Vardousia in the heart of Roumeli. Its population, according to the 2011 Census, is 518 inhabitants. The village was renamed from Ano Mousounitsa to Athanasios Diako in 1959. The village square is dominated by the statue of the hero who settled there by Plastiras in 1922 in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Revolution of 1821. The village is approached either through Amfissa and Lidoriki or through Amfikleia and Pavliani. Artotina argues with Athanasios Diakos about which village is the birthplace of Athanasios Diakos.
THE Mousounitsa is built at an altitude of 860 meters on the eastern slopes of Vardousia in a valley formed by a tributary of the Mornos. Its population according to the 2011 census is 165 inhabitants.
