At a glance
Leaving the Skopje to the east, the first thing you will notice are the Albanian flags waving everywhere, in houses, shops, gas stations. In the summer you can get long queues of cars to celebrate a wedding, again with Albanian flags. You have not entered Albania by mistake, but this area is inhabited mainly by Albanians, a community quite nationalistic. In the mountains, south of Kitchevo, there the flag of FYROM replaces the Albanian one, and the big crosses on the hills the mosques, until you reach the multicultural Ohrid.
