Important cities
- Kazvin Important city on the main highway from the Turkish border to Tehran. Kazvin was the seat of the Nizarite Ishmaelite religious order known as the "Assassins" (murderers) by the Crusaders. The ruins of their castle are a major attraction.
- Sanataj - Capital of Kurdistan famous for its hospitality.
- Kermanshah - Largest city in Western Iran with many attractions. The main attraction is the petroglyphs from the coronation of King Hosroy II and Sappho III at Tak e Bostan.
- Hamadan - The ancient Ekvatana, seat of the successors of Diokis as well as summer residence of the Arsakid Dynasty.
- Horamabad - Capital of Lorestan province with remarkable monuments.
- Ahvaz - Capital of the province of Khuzestan
- Dezful - Historic town with old bridges and busy bazaars
- Abadan - A major port and oil refinery that was severely damaged during the Iran-Iraq war,

- Palangan - A picturesque village with stone houses in the province of Kurdistan.
- They believe - Village near Kermanshah with sculptures from the time of Darius of Persia (550-486 BC) included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
- Παβέχ - Mountain village in a landscape reminiscent of Arcadia.
- Sousa - Ancient city that was the capital of the Elamites, Persians and Parthians. In 2015, UNESCO declared the Sousse Archaeological Site a World Heritage Site.
- Tsoga Zanbil - Impressive "ziggurat" (pyramidal construction), and a great example of Mesopotamian architecture that testifies to the culture of the Elamites. It was the first monument on Iranian soil to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
- Σουσταρ Shushtar - Historic city with ruins of Roman times.
