The Minsk is the largest city and capital of Belarus.

It has a population of 1.8 million. Minsk is also the seat of the Commonwealth of Independent States. As the capital, Minsk has a special administrative position in Belarus and is also the capital of the Minsk Province. The area of Minsk is 266.8 km² the highest point is 280.4 m above sea level. The earliest records of Minsk date from the 11th century (1067). In 1242 Minsk became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and received the city privileges in 1499. From 1569 it was the capital of the Vojvodina (ваяводства) of Minsk in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was annexed by Russia in 1793 as a result of the second partition of Poland. Between 1919 and 1991 Minsk was the capital of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Belarus.
