H Muscat, or Muscat (مسقط) 'is the capital of his Sultanate Oman and the largest city in the country. The port is located in North Oman.
At first glance
History
In this area inhabited from the second millennium BC. The rich Magan empire flourished, trading in copper and pearls. In 500 BC. it was occupied by Cyrus II. After a millennium of Persian rule, the Islamic era followed. In 1507 the city was conquered by Portuguese sailors, to be liberated in 1650 by Sultan Ibn Zaif. The city became a commercial center and since 1808 is the capital of Oman.
