Belo Horizonte is known in Brazil as the capital of botego, the traditional and cheap restaurants that are today threatened by fast food competition. The term comes from the Greek word warehouse. There are 12,000 botegos or botekim in the city. Many are located in the central market area. You will taste liver with onions (figado acebolado) pork sausages with smoked red peppers (chouriço apimentado) and fried aubergines (jiló frito)
