To Bali is a town on its north coast Of Crete, at a distance of about 32 km east of Of Rethymno and 50 km from Heraklion.

At a glance

The Venetians called it Atali, from its ancient name which was Astali. There is also the Atali Monastery nearby, which retains the medieval name of the place. It is built on an elevated small peninsula, so it overlooks the bay and the sea. It used to be a fishing village, while today it is an important resort with hotels and apartments. Bali has a port, nice fish taverns and an island beach.

In Bali, apart from the port, a short distance away is the historic monastery of Agios Ioannis, which is celebrated on August 29. Also characteristic is the festival of "Panagia tou Harakas" on August 15.
