THE Naxos is the largest island of Cyclades, in the Aegean Sea. Its area is 435 sq.km. and the length of the coasts of 91 km.

At a glance

The island is the largest in the Cyclades and has an important mountainous part in its eastern part, with a peak of 1002 meters. Typical climate for the Cyclades. Meltemia in August, northerly most of the time. Mild island climate. The largest settlement of Naxos is Chora. There are many hotels and rooms for rent, either in Chora or on the beaches of the island. Important tourist infrastructure exists in the west of the island along the beach Agios Prokopios - Agia Anna - Marangas - Plaka. Most of the restaurants, cafes, bars, hotels offer internet access via wi-fi wireless network.

How to get there

Naxos has one or two flights a day from Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport. The flight takes about 45 minutes.

There is a ferry connection with Piraeus (with the line Paros-Naxos), but also with several other ports, such as the intra-Cycladic lines Syros-Mykonos-Paros-Naxos-Ios-Sikinos-Folegandros-Kimolos-Milos, Syros-Paros-Naxos -Donousa-Aegiali-Katapola-Koufonisi-Schinoussa-Iraklia-Naxos-Paros-Syros and Syros-Mykonos-Paros-Naxos-Folegandros-Sikinos-Ios-Thirasia-Thira-Anafi. The companies that serve Naxos are Blue Star Ferries (www.bluestarferries.gr), Hellas Flying Dolphin (www.dolphins.gr), Minoan lines (www.minoan.gr), Nel lines (www.nel.gr) and GA ferries. Travel time is from 5 hours and 20 minutes to 6 hours and 20 minutes with conventional ferries and 3 hours and 30 minutes with high speed ferries.

In Naxos Town there are municipal parking lots, two towards the port and two towards Agios Georgios, with sufficient capacity. Parking at the port is not allowed for guests, except for travelers, hotel and room vehicles, but also for taxis.

In the villages there are also municipal parking lots.
There are several car rental companies in Naxos such as Hertz, Budget,Imperial Naxos, Europcar.

Entertainment

  • Naxos Festival. The summer cultural festival of the island includes exhibitions of fine arts, concerts, theatrical performances, contemporary dance, cinema, speech etc.
    The events of the Naxos Festival are hosted mainly in Pyrgos Bazaiou, in the interior of the island.
    The events are hosted from July to September mainly in Pyrgos Bazaiou, a 17th century monument in the interior of Naxos and in other selected places.

Local cuisine

Wherever you go for food, remember that the island has significant livestock and therefore a wide variety of cheese products. One of the local dishes is roast.
