History
The name of the village is due to the ancient Skioni, which was a colony. According to Thucydides, it was built by Pallinians of the Peloponnese, who were in the present village to spend the winter. He was a member of the Athenian Alliance, but joined the Lacedaemonians during the Peloponnesian War, with the result that the Athenians retaliated by killing all its male inhabitants and surrendering the city to the Plataeans. Skioni survived during the Roman era, as evidenced by ancient literary sources and archaeological finds from the surrounding area. The current village was founded in 1918 by fishermen. The old village was located in the mountains and was called Tsaprani and was completely abandoned in 1930.
