THE Nigrita is a town in Prefecture of Serres.

The settlement of Nigrita was created, in all probability, in the middle of the 16th century by inhabitants of mountainous areas and the population gradually increased until the beginning of the 20th century, when it reached 4,300 inhabitants. Current population 4,947 (2011).
