South Sudan officially became an independent state on July 9, 2011. Two years later, a bloody civil war broke out that claimed the lives of tens of thousands of civilians. Despite the ceasefire signed by the two political opponents, Keir Mayardit and Makar on February 2, 2015, the situation remains fluid and the trip is not recommended.
