The Paranesti is a town in Prefecture of Drama. It is located on the road Drama - Xanthi, next to the river Nestos, and is 40 km from Drama and 49 km from the city Xanthi. It has 625 permanent residents, a train station and a health center.
At a glance
Paranesti before 1912
It is the last supply center for the inland excursion of the fairy land. The area is characterized by rich natural beauty, with great and rare vegetation, rich flora and fauna, streams with old arched bridges and beautiful waterfalls, while scattered ruins and churches testify to the human presence in previous decades.
Since September 2012, it operates in the area "immigrant reception center".
