THE Platamonas is a seaside village and tourist resort in Central Macedonia, in Hellas.

Platamonas is a village with about 2000 permanent residents. It is located on the coast of East Olympus, an area with several tourist destinations such as Litochoro, the Katerini, Leptokarya, Neoi Poroi. It belongs to the Municipality of East Olympus. Platamonas is located between two cities. It is 43 km from Katerini which is located north and 48 km from Larissa, located south. The village is accessible by train and bus with many daily services. Platamonas is one of the most popular summer destinations in the area with several hotels, beach bars, taverns, restaurants and cafes. Tourists usually come from nearby towns and villages or from other countries, mainly from Eastern Europe.
Platamonas Coast is one of the longest beaches in Hellas. For the most part the beach is sandy with lifeguards and there are plenty of water games available.

By air
The nearest airport is Macedonia International Airport in Thessaloniki.
By train
The train station is located in Neos Poros however the two villages are next to each other so that the movement can be done even on foot. The price of the train ticket is € 12 from Thessaloniki and € 4 from Larissa (25 minutes) (2013 prices).
By road
Thessaloniki is located 104 kilometers north of Platamonas.
By boat

In Platamonas the visitor can move even on foot to go to Neos Poros however it is recommended to use a bicycle, motorcycle or car to save time.

Problems
A rather big problem of Platamonas has to do with the cleanliness of the area. Unfortunately, there are very few bins for a large area, and the existing bins are constantly full. Garbage trucks are infrequent, bins are cleaned even less frequently, so a lot of rubbish is down the road, and many bins are broken. Residents as well as tourists are forced to "walk" the garbage, as many are those who do not have access to a nearby trash can. In addition, there is no recycling in the area, which further aggravates the situation. As a result, this image does not refer to a tourist resort, which is visited by thousands of tourists inside and outside Greece every summer and definitely something must be done ...
Nearby destinations
- Δίον (29km north). Near Dion are the ruins of an entire ancient Macedonian city ancient city of Dion which is an important archaeological site. There is also the Museum of Dion where there are ancient exhibits from the area.
- The visitor can travel by train or bus to nearby tourist destinations such as Leptokarya (about 10 minutes by train), Litochoro (about 15 minutes by train), which have beaches, and several cafes, beach bars and taverns.
