THE Sierra Leone is her country westernAfrica. It borders to the north with Guinea, south with Liberia while west it is rained by Atlantic ocean.

At a glance

The name Sierra Leone means "Mountains of Leo" in Spanish and is probably due to the shape of the mountains that form the bay of the capital reminiscent of a seated lion to the first European seafarers who reached the shores of the country in the second half of the fifteenth century.

•   Κενέμα - Largest urban center of the eastern province, in an area rich in diamond mines.

Additional tourist destinations

The country's few seaside resorts are concentrated on the west coast of the mountainous peninsula, which includes the capital Freetown. The best known of these are Lucky Beach,   Hamilton Beach, Sussex Beach,   Tokeh Beach and finally the village   York. All of them have a small tourist infrastructure

  Banana Island - A small group of islands at the southern tip of the Freetown Peninsula. They are popular among scuba divers.
