TheKharkiv (Ukrainian: Харків, Russian: Харьков) is its second largest cityOf Ukraine. It was the first capital of Soviet Ukraine, and today the administrative center of the Kharkiv region, as well as the Kharkiv Oblast within the region. The city is located in the northeast of the country. In 2006 its population was 1,461,300.

There are hundreds of industries in the city. Among them are world-renowned companies such as the Morozov Design Bureau, the Malisyev Chariot Factory, Hartron (manufacturer of aerospace and nuclear electronics) and Turboatom (producer of turbines).
