History
The area of today's Chrysoupoli was occupied by the Ottomans in 1375–1376. The city was founded by the Ottomans and was called Sarai Sampan. The first Greek renaming of the city was Sapai (from the name of the ancient Thracian tribe that lived in the area). Its current name came from a misunderstanding of the meaning of the Turkish name, as it was wrongly considered to mean "golden plow" and that it was due to the euphoria of the region. Today's city was already prosperous in the 17th century. It was released on July 11, 1913. In the city there are several listed buildings, such as the bell tower of Agios Dimitrios (1884), the old administration (1880) and the building of the Agricultural Bank (1924).
