- Lipetsk — In the time of Peter the Great, Lipetsk became a cast iron city. The headquarters of Novolipetsk Steel Company (Группа НЛМК) is located there, which is one of the largest steel plants in Russia.
- Dankov
- Lebedan — A small town with an important literary history: novelists Andrey Bere (Андрей Белый) and Mikhail Bulgakov (Михаил Афанасьевич Булгаков) live here, and the great Soviet dystopian science fiction Yevgeny Samirchin (Евгений Иванович Замятин) was born here; the town also has two cathedrals.
- Yelets — The second largest city in the region, and one of the oldest cities in the Black Earth region, and one of the most charming places. It is located on the banks of the Sosna River. The famous local attraction is the large Ascension Cathedral.
- Zadonsk — A small town on the Don River, where the Zadensk Bogorodtsky Monastery, the Cemetery of St. Tikhon and the nearby Tikhonovsky Monastery are located.
