Nara Prefecture is the hometown of the Japanese imperial family. The prefecture has no less than three ancient capitals: Asuka (538-694), Kashihara (694-710) and Nara (710-784). The plains around Nara are dotted with magnificent temples and imperial cemeteries called ancient tombs.

Both JR Railway and Kintetsu can connect to Nara Prefecture.

FromOsakaTo depart, you can take the JR Yamato Road Main Line to Nara. This takes 50-60 minutes. If you depart near Tsuruhashi Station, it will be cheaper to take the Kintetsu Line to Kintetsu Nara Station. FromKyotoStarting off, the difference between Kintetsu and JR is not very big, but JR is usually slightly faster, and Kintetsu is cheaper. Kintetsu has some direct trains from Kyoto Station to Kintetsu Nara Station, but in general, you need to change at Yamato-Saidaiji Station.

Outside the capital, Kintetsu Railway provides more connections than JR. Many places, such as Yoshino, Asuka, and Sakurai can only be reached by Kintetsu.
