During the reign of Florence, Rada was the headquarters of the Chianti Union. The House of Florence is located in the beautiful 15th-century palace del Podestari, and its facade is decorated with several weapons of the time. The town retains the characteristics of a medieval town. Many narrow streets merge into the main square. On the main square you will see the Church of San Niccolo, a church of Roman origin, decorated with a wooden holy cross from the 15th century.

Not far from the square is the Grand Duke’s ice house, built at the end of the 19th century to preserve snow and turn it into ice. The Catholic Art Museum in Chianti is also worth a visit. It is located in the Franciscan Convent of Santa Maria in Prato and displays works of art from the Chianti region, including the precious four pairs created by Neri di Bicci (1474), depicting The Virgin Mary with children and saints.

Around Rada, you will find many castles and parish churches, such as the medieval castle of Volpaia and the beautifully decorated Romanesque church Santa Maria in Prato.

Today, Rada and its surrounding area are a relaxing holiday destination in Tuscany. The restaurants and wine shops in the town offer excellent Tuscan cuisine and the opportunity to taste the classic Chianti wines produced in the region. At the local tourist information office, you can get a list of wineries that hold wine tasting on the day of your visit.
