Departing from Toronto, proceed eastward along HWY401, after passing Kingston, exit HWY416 highway northward, about 4 hours in total, and arrive at Ottawa, the capital of Canada. In Canada’s history, the capital has been moved many times, from the small town of Waterfall Lake to Toronto to Kingston and finally to Ottawa. It was based on national defense considerations. American independence invaded Canada many times. The War of 1812 broke out, burned York, invaded Quebec, and later arrived. In 1857, the relationship between Canada and the United States was very tense. There were often armed conflicts at the border. Although Kingston was an important military base in Canada, it was too close to the United States. Therefore, the capital was moved inland for safety. The second reason is racial conflicts. The two main ethnic groups in Canada, the French and the British, are unwilling to build their capitals in the settlements of each other. Therefore, Toronto, where the majority of British people live, and Quebec, where the majority of French people live, are excluded. The timber town of Ottawa has become the natural choice. It happens to be half of the British-Americans and half of the French-Americans. It is the same distance from Quebec City, the capital of Quebec, and Toronto, the capital of Ontario. Therefore, Queen Victoria appointed Ottawa in 1857. Appointed as the capital of Canada, pacified the Anglo-French ethnicity. Now in Ottawa, the residents’ living habits have not changed. An Ottawa River divides the city into two parts. This side of the river belongs to Ontario and is a British colony. All road signs are in English; the other side of the river belongs to Quebec and is French. In the Juju District, the road signs are in French.
