Bay area(Full nameSan Francisco Bay Area) SurroundCaliforniaNorthSan FranciscoBay is a diverse and extensive area with nearly 8 million residents in cities such as San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and San Jose. The San Francisco Bay Area was once a center of Spanish missionary activities and gold prospectors, and is now known for its lifestyle, democratic politics, and Silicon Valley's high-tech industries.

Although the region has no clear boundaries, it basically includes 9 cities: Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Solano, San Francisco, San Mateo, Contra Costa, Alameda and Santa clara. San Mateo and Santa Clara counties in the north make up the peninsula, while Contra Costa and Alameda make up the East Bay of the area. The southern areas of Sonoma and Napa Counties are also considered part of the Bay Area because their culture and economy are oriented towards the Bay Area. In the east and south, remote towns like Gilroy and Santa Cruz are also part of the area. Whether the Central Valley/Central Coast belongs to the area or not will depend on who the person in question is.
