General passenger arrangements

Under normal circumstances, all inbound passengers need to hold a passport with a validity period of at least one month or more, and all holders of "stateless" travel documents need to hold a passport with a validity period of at least two months. At present, passport holders from most countries or regions do not need to apply for a visa/entry permit to travel in Hong Kong as long as they can meet the general entry requirements, and stay for 7 to 180 days. For details, please contact the Hong Kong Immigration Department.

Entry Arrangements for Taiwanese Visitors to Hong Kong

Where do not hold anyTaiwanTaiwanese Chinese residents with valid travel documents issued outside the local area, if they wish to travel to Hong Kong, must apply for an entry permit before going to Hong Kong.

Since Taiwan does not have an agency that directly handles entry permits, the Hong Kong Tourism BoardTaipeiThe office does not handle related applications, so if Chinese residents of Taiwan want to apply for a travel entry permit, they can apply for one of the following methods:

Online pre-arrival registration

Starting from September 1, 2012, eligible Taiwanese Chinese residents can pre-register for free entry to Hong Kong for travel online.

Petition form

The applicant is a Taiwanese Chinese resident and meets the following conditions:

  • "Born in Taiwan" or "Born outside Taiwan but came to Hong Kong as a Taiwan resident"
  • Does not hold any travel documents issued by agencies other than the Taiwan authorities (excluding the "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents" (commonly known as "Taiwan Compatriot Permit"), entry permits issued by the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), and Online Express Card].
Registration procedure
  • Applicants must pre-register through the GovHK website. After entering the required information, the computer system will automatically process the registration and the applicant will be informed of the result immediately.
  • If the registration is successful, the applicant must use A4 size white blank paper to print out the "Notice of Pre-arrival Registration for Taiwan Residents" (the notice) compiled by the computer system.
  • Applicants must verify the information contained in the notice to ensure that the information entered is true and correct, and is consistent with the information on the travel document for returning to Taiwan, and then sign the notice. If the applicant is a child under the age of 16, the child’s parent or legal guardian must verify the information and sign.
  • Applicants must hold a travel document that can be used to return to Taiwan during the pre-arrival registration and immigration inspection procedures in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the validity period of the document shall not be less than six months.

If a registered holder meets the general entry requirements, he can enter the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region twice within two months, with a maximum stay of 30 days each time.

Note: When the registration has expired or the holder has used the registration to enter the country twice, a new registration can be made.

If the passenger fails to complete the pre-arrival registration, he can submit an application for an entry permit to the Immigration Department according to the arrangements described in the second and third items below.

Hong Kong Tourist Entry Permit

Taiwanese Chinese residents currently living in Taiwan who wish to travel to Hong Kong can apply for a Hong Kong Entry Permit through an authorized airline's office in Taiwan or an agency travel agency. Applicants can download the application form (ID78D/ID78H) from the website of the Hong Kong Immigration Department, and then submit the completed application form together with other supporting documents.

Petition form

Applicants must hold a Taiwan passport, and the passport must be valid for at least six months. Applicants must prepare a photocopy of their Taiwan passport, a photocopy of their ID card, a half-length photo (4.5 cm in height and 3.5 cm in width) and fill in the application form ID78D or ID78H printed by the Hong Kong Immigration Department. If you come to Hong Kong with a tourist entry permit, you can generally stay for 30 days.

There are two types of licenses:

  • ID78D-single entry (visiting Hong Kong for more than 30 days);
  • ID78H-valid for one year, multiple entries / valid for three years, multiple entries (no more than 30 days in Hong Kong).

Note: After completing the application form, those who use the online application form must sign the first and second pages of the form respectively, and then submit the form together with other supporting documents to the office or agent of the approved airline in Taiwan Travel agency; the relevant airline office will write the file number on the application form. If there are any omissions, please check with the airline's office or agency travel agency.

In addition, Taiwan residents holding a valid "Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents" (commonly known as "Taiwan Compatriot Permit"), if they meet the general entry requirements, regardless of transit through Hong Kong, travel to and from Mainland China, or travel to Hong Kong, they can stay in Hong Kong as a visitor for no more than 30 days.

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Travel Pass

Frequent visitors to Hong Kong who hold a valid passport and do not require a Hong Kong visitor visa or entry permit can apply for the "Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Travel Pass". Applicants must have visited Hong Kong three times within 12 months before submitting the application (depart from Hong Kong after enteringChinaMainland orMacaoExcept for the number of times of returning to Hong Kong after the region) or more, and during this period, there is no bad record, or he can satisfy the Director of Immigration that his visit can bring considerable benefits to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Travel pass holders can use the established counters for Hong Kong residents to follow the simplified procedures for entry and exit procedures. E-Channels for frequent visitors to Hong Kong

Frequent visitors to Hong Kong can enjoy the self-service immigration clearance (e-channel) service at Hong Kong International Airport, which is simple and convenient. Passengers using this service must hold a valid Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Travel Pass, APEC Business Travel Card (with "HKG" area code), Hong Kong International Airport Frequent Flyer Card, or a Frequent Flyer Club member issued by a designated airline And hold valid travel documents and multiple tourist visas (if applicable).
