Abkhazia - state not recognized with the capital of w Sukhumi, located on the Black Sea and the West Caucasus.

According to international law, Abkhazia is an autonomous republic included in the Georgia, called Abkhaz Autonomous Republic (Georgian აფხაზეთის ავტონომიური რესპუბლიკა - Apchazetis Awtonomiuri Respublika, abch. Аҧснытәи Автономиaтәи Ареспубликa - Apsnytłyj Avtonomiatłyj Respublika).

Geography

The greater part of the territory (approx. 70%) is covered by mountains - the southern slopes of the main Caucasus ridge (more important passes: Kłuchorska and Maruchska) and its branches: in the north-west the Gagrian Mountains, in the center the Bzypijskie Mountains and the Abkhazian Mountains, in the south-east the Kodorskie Mountains). The highest peak is Dombaj-Ulgen (4046 m above sea level). The mountains of the western part of Abkhazia are mainly composed of carbonate rocks that dissolve in water to form karst caves. The most famous of them are the Newton Cave and the Abrskila Cave. In turn, in the Arbaa massif there is the Krubera Cave - the deepest cave in the world.

There are many lakes in Abkhazia (more than 180), and the largest and most famous of them are the lakes Amtkjal and Rica.

Abkhazia has small resources of hard coal, zinc, lead, copper, mercury and barite ores, as well as building materials. The country abounds in numerous mineral springs (e.g. the town of Awdachara).

The main rivers are: Bzyp, Kodori, Psou, Gumista and Galidzga.

Climate

The climate on the coast is subtropical, humid, in the mountains from 500 to 2000 m above sea level. moderate mountain, above 2000 m above sea level - mountain cool.

The average temperature in January ranges from –2 ° C to 7 ° C, in July from 16 ° C to 24 ° C, annual rainfall is 1300–2400 mm. On the coast and in the foothills, red-earths and yellow-earths predominate, above that, humus-carbonate soils, brown forest soils and mountain soils.
