Akşehir is a city in Central Anatolia in the Turkey in the province Konya.
background
This place was probably founded in the third century BC. by the Macedonian prince Philomelion. Logically this was called Philomelion in antiquity. The rulers changed from Romans and Byzantines to Seljuks, Karamanoğulları and Ottomans. But only once did the city really make history. On May 7th, 1190 the battle of Philomelion between the Crusaders and the Seljuks was fought here, during which the minstrel Friedrich von Hausen died. This crusade was led by King Barbarossa, who was able to win this battle, but drowned in the Saleph River near the city of Seleucia on June 10th, 1190.
