Urban centers

  • Jinan (濟南 市) - The capital of Shandong province is famous for its mineral springs.
  • Laiwu (莱芜; Láiwú) - Having about one million inhabitants, it is the smallest prefecture-level city in the province.
  • Linyi (临沂; Línyí) - Recently expanded under the slogan of "Great Linyi, New Linyi".
  • Qingzhou (青州; Qīngzhōu) - An agricultural but also an industrial city, Qingzhou boasts pagodas, mosques and gardens from the Ming era.
  • Qufu (曲阜, Qūfù) - Ancient capital of the state of Lu, Qufu was, according to legend, the birthplace of Confucius. Since 1994 Qufu figure in the list of World Heritage Sites ofUNESCO.
  • Tai'an (泰安; Tài'ān) - Base for excursions to nearby Mount Tai (Tai Shan), the most important of the five mountains sacred to Taoism. In 1987, Mount Tai was declared a World Heritage Site by theUNESCO.
  • Weifang (潍坊; Wéifāng) - Weifang is the kite capital of the world.
  • Zibo (淄博; Zībó) - It was the capital of the state of Qi and became famous for the production of ceramics and lacquers.
  • Zoucheng (邹城市; Zōuchéng Shì) - Immediately north of Zoucheng there are numerous tombs of kings and emperors.

  • Mount Tai - The most important of the five sacred Taoist mountains of the China.
