The Amathola Mountains Region lies in the south african province Eastern Cape.

Regions

The region of the Amathole Mountains (Amatola Mountains) is inland of the Eastern Cape Province between the region Frontier Country and the Eastern Cape Midlands north of the Sunshine Coast. The larger Amathole District was named after the Amathole Mountains.

The rural structured region is predominantly inhabited by Xhosa. The word Amathola comes from their language and means Calves.
