Aneby is an urban area in Småland located in Jönköping County and has about 6,500 inhabitants. Something Aneby is known for is nature and has many high hills and mountain valleys and is sometimes therefore called "little Norrland". Southern Sweden's largest waterfall of 20 meters is the stalpets waterfall which has been formed by the black river that flows through Aneby.

History

1907 is the year that Aneby was generally considered to have been founded. However, the community was populated already during the Stone Age, according to archaeological finds made around Aneby (including Lommaryd, Askeryd and Frinnaryd). Graves from the Bronze Age and Iron Age have also been identified in the area, with the exception of the railway which came to 1873-1874, the buildings before 1906 were considered to be highly limited. In 1874, when the Aneby-Nässjö railway line was built, there was a small parish built around Bredestad church. There was also a school, a poorhouse and a number of farms, including Aneby farm. The farm was sold in 1906 to the landowner Anders Petter Andersson, he is considered to have contributed a lot to Aneby's development. To Aneby farm, a plot must have come with which Anders is said to have divided into smaller parts and then sold off, something that the previous owner Johan Axel Schreiber refused to do. A P Andersson also fenced off neighborhoods and streets. 140 apartments were built until 1920 and after 4 years Aneby was classified as a municipal community. A doctor named Elis Sandberg started a clinic for cancer patients in the 60's who received treatment with the natural remedy THX, Aneby then became known for being the place where the doctor was. Eleven years after Sandberg's death, the clinic was closed in 2000. The population development forecast that came in 1978 showed that the municipality would reach 6,975 inhabitants in 1990, but the population became significantly more and the municipality had 7,159 people that year. The population increase has since reversed and in 2015 there were 6,521 inhabitants.
