Araçuaí is a city in the interior of the state of Minas Gerais, at the Jequitinhonha Valley. It holds great natural beauty and cultural wealth, indigenous and black culture is present in this city, as well as in most of the Jequitinhonha valley.

The city of Araçuaí was founded in 1817, by a settlement on the banks of the Araçuaí river. The camp was called "Calhau", because of the round stones that existed there. Until today Araçuaí is known by that name. The historic part of the city is located in the lower part of the city, closer to the Araçuaí river, where flooding occurs.
Climate
The rainy season is muggy and the sky is almost cloudy, in the dry season the sky is almost cloudless. All year round, the weather is hot.
The best times to visit Araçuaí and do activities in warm weather are from the beginning of April to the end of July and from the end of July to the middle of October.
