Newer Athens Eleftherios Venizelos airport (DATE: ATH, [1]) is one of the largest in the region. Finnair flies to the city for leisure flights. For example, switching via Budapest or Vienna can be reached daily.
In addition to a taxi (about 20-30 €), the city center can be reached by metro (6 €) or local bus X95 (3.20 €). With all the options, you can get to Syntagma Square in about three quarters, although you can get even more spoiled during peak hours. Note that there are in fact two train connections: metro line 3 runs directly to Syntagma, while Proastiakos-the local train ends at Larissa station.

The refurbished and heavily expanded Athens Metro for the 2004 Olympics is by far the best way to get around the city. A single ticket costs only € 1 (except for the airport / € 8), or a full day ticket € 3. The ticket for the week, on the other hand, costs € 14 and can be used to travel by all means of public transport: by bus, local train, tram and, of course, by metro.
The metro is still partially under construction, so the current situation and interruptions to traffic should be checked before traveling to the Athens metro from their own pages.

A new, air-conditioned and modern tram runs from Syntagma to the coast and back. There are two terminals on the coast, near Faliro Piraeus and near Voula Glyfada. There are several free or paid beaches along the way.

Many places, such as the Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum and the Archaeological Museum, can also be reached free of charge or at a discount with a Finnish student card, so it is a good idea to keep it with you.
- 1 Parthenon . 12€.
- 2 Acropolis Museum . Located at the foot of the Acropolis Hill, the new museum building is architecturally impressive and the exhibition itself is recommended before the Acropolis hurts. With a guide, you can get a lot more out of the tour, but if you still go without it, start with a video show upstairs to get a better picture of the whole. 5€.
- 3 National Archaeological Museum . A much larger and more comprehensive museum of Hellenic culture, history and mythology than the Acropolis Museum. Located about half a kilometer north of Omonia metro station and about a kilometer northeast of Metaxourgio metro.
- 4 Pnika . A high hill about a mile west of the Acropolis, from the top of which there are stunning views over the whole of Athens.

- 1 Liosporos Jazz Café. Salads, pasta, Greek specialties. Servings € 4-€ 7. Jazz is playing in the background. Address: 27 Miaouli, two blocks from Monastiraki Metro Station. It’s worth coming in with a small group, ordering for a larger crowd is a hassle, but a one or two service is smooth.
