Aubeterre-sur-Dronne is a city of Charente, in the South West of France.

Understand

Its location on the borders of Angoumois, Saintonge and Périgord makes it a good starting point for exploring these three former French provinces.

Small town of character encamped on a hill overlooking a bend of the Dronne, it aligns its picturesque houses along cobbled and flowery alleys. On an escarpment dominating the site, the Saint-Jacques church is a stopover for pilgrims on the road to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. Emblematic monument of the city, the underground church of Saint-Jean is one of the largest in France, and one of the three in the region along with that of Saint Emilion and the hermitage of Mortagne-sur-Gironde.

Aubeterre-sur-Dronne is one of the "Most beautiful villages in France ».
