Founded 27 centuries ago, Augusta (Megara Hyblaea) is one of the oldest Greek colonies in Sicily. It was destroyed, destroyed by rival Syracuse and then rebuilt by the Romans. It remains an archaeological site, a testament to the organization of a Greek colony from the Archaic period.
