It is thanks to the geographic remoteness of the valley in the past and the pride of the local population in their language that a separate regional dialect has been preserved to this day and is now a trademark of the region.

Tourist Attractions

Toplitzsee
  • Toplitzsee - Many sagas and legends entwine around the mountain lake in the Styrian Ausseerland. Some of them have already been unraveled. For example, the Nazi counterfeit money (English pounds) was found. Regardless of this, the lake, which is over 700 m above sea level, is a great destination for excursions.
    • Access: from the end of the road at Grundlsee (car parking lot) it is approx. 1.6 km to the Fischerhütte at Toplitzsee (road closed for cars) Here is a dead end (also for pedestrians and cyclists). The excursion gastronomy in the fisherman's hut invites you to stop.
    • Toplitzsee - lake data: Length: 2 km; Width: 400 m, depth: 103 m
    • Development - There are no hiking trails around the Toplitzsee due to the impassable terrain. The end of the lake can only be reached by motorboat from the fisherman's hut.
    • Boat trip to the Kammersee: The small Kammersee can only be reached by motor barge over the Toplitzsee. The Kammersee is a small lake at the end of the valley. The imposing rocky backdrop of the Dead Mountains is particularly close here. From the end of the Toplitzsee to the Kammersee it is about 5 minutes on foot. The open motor boats give enough time to visit the small lake.
