Autoire is a municipality and a village in Lot located in the Dordogne valley and classified among The most beautiful villages in France.

Understand

Autoire nestles in a circus, at the foot of limestone cliffs deeply indented by the Toire stream which rises above the village in an impressive 30-meter waterfall.

The origin of Autoire certainly dates back to the Middle Ages, but its great period of prosperity developed in the 17th and 18th centuries when the village became the resort of the notables of Saint-Cere. They built there, outside the limits of the castrum, sumptuous manors and manor houses which gave the village the nickname of "Little Versailles".
