Map of Bávaro

background

This tourist stronghold was created artificially. It consists of an infinitely long picture-perfect beach. One hotel is directly next to the other, similar to Varedero in Cuba or Negril in Jamaica. It is located north of Punta Cana and the airport. Originally this was only supposed to be a housing estate for the workers in Punta Cana, but hotels were soon also built north of Punta Cana on the beach. Today there are over 28,000 hotel beds in the Bavaro - Punta Cana region.

Bavaro starts with Cabeza de Toro and runs over the intersection of Veron for 15 km along the coast to the north to Macao Beach.

Veron is on the main road to or from Higüey. The name goes back to the last name of the last timber wholesaler there, a Frenchman in the 1930s. Today the place has a larger area than Higüey, is a rapidly growing residential area for hotel employees and has one of three gas stations in Bavaro - Punta Cana.

The main street intersection of Bavaro is the junction Frisua. The bus stop and the offices of the tourist police “Polish” are nearby. Towards the sea you come to the former, small fishing village El Cortecito.

To the north of it you can reach Arena Gorda. The northern end has been reached at Playa El Macao.

The range of leisure activities is enormous. Between 1991 and today, 12 golf courses have been built in the region, with more being planned.

beaches

The southern town of Cabeza de Toro has a beach of the same name. In contrast to many other touristic beaches, the Cabeza de Toro is even quieter. There are only a few hotels on this stretch of beach, such as the Natura Park or the Catalonia Resort. Several tourist attractions are offered in Cabeza de Toro.

The marinarium, for example, where you can swim with sharks and rays. The Animal Adventure Park, in which various animal shows are offered. The animals living in the Animal Adventure Park are kept under good conditions. The Manatee Park a little further inland is not recommended. This zoo has been criticized, the animals, especially the dolphins and sea lions, are kept under unworthy conditions.

  • Bavaro Beach. South of the small fishing village of El Cortecito is a dream, the finest coral sand, crystal clear water. Coral reefs, which run directly off the coast, act as natural surf protection at Playa Bavaro. There are many shady coconut palm trees on this stretch of coast.
  • El Cortecito. Originally a small fishing village, with boats on Playa El Cortecito beach.
  • Roco Ki Beach, Arena Gorda Beach. This is the stretch of beach at the level of the RIU resorts and the Iberostar hotels.
  • Uvero Alto. Playa El Macao is one of the few unspoilt beaches in the Punta Cana region. At the moment there are no hotels on this beach, so few tourists. The beach is often almost deserted. The beach is often used by a local riding stables to offer horse rides for holiday guests. From time to time, quad tours also stop by.
