Baker Island is a small, uninhabited island near the equator. The closest land is Howland Island, some 70 kilometers north, and is part of the Baker Island National Wildlife Refuge.

Baker Island has a runway, but it cannot be reached by plane as the runway can no longer be used. Only scientists with a special permit are allowed to enter this island. The journey is made by boat from the Marshall Islands.
