Detailed route

Bangkok
Kuala Lumpur

Start in Bangkok, 3-4 days. See the palace, wander among the markets and soak up the Thai metropolis. From Bangkok we travel by bus (~ about 10 hours, overnight) to the island Ko Tao, the time budget for this stop is approximately 6 days, during which time you will have time to take a diving certificate, to use later during the trip.Ko Phangan, the island between Ko Tao and Ko Samui which has become famous for its wildlife Full Moon Parties, but which has so much more to offer. Here we stay for 3 days and explore the beaches and nightlife before heading towards Ko Samui.

Ko Samui is Thailand's second largest island. There is an incredible amount to discover here! We rent a motorcycle during the 6 days we are on the island. Explore the beaches around the island, hike up to a jungle waterfall, dive and watch Thai boxing in Chaweng.

The boat trips between these three islands are no longer than an hour.

Now we feel ready to move into the next country, Malaysia. We take a bus directly from Ko Samui to Surat Thani with a bus ferry. When we get to the mainland, we board the same bus that takes us to Hat Yai, the city that is usually the one you see before leaving Thailand and entering Malaysia. Here we change buses and the evening begins to descend over us. We were told that it takes about 20 hours from Ko Samui to Kuala Lumpur. There is an opportunity here for a stop in Georgetown in Malaysia, where you can change buses and go to Langkawi or other destinations in the northern parts of the country.

Once in Malaysia, we go straight into everything that the capital Kuala Lumpur has to offer. We choose to take a taxi to the famous Petronas Twin Towers and sees this from the ground. Then we move on KL Tower, which offers a much better view of the city than the famous twin towers do (and with a MUCH shorter queue and waiting time!). After this, we end the day with a wonderful dinner in Chinatown for a few kroner and then shop a bit at the market in the same district. The next day we spend watching Batu Caves, just outside Kuala Lumpur. We spend another two days in this city that is mostly spent walking around and looking at all the amazing architecture, shopping at the market in Chinatown and maybe enjoying the pool at the hotel before we move on.

Melaka is a sleepy little town about halfway between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, here we look at Dutch architecture and walk around the neighborhood for 2 days, then this city feels done and we steer the cow south.

Singapore is a metropolis. There are lots of things to do here, so you can probably read in the guidebook yourself and choose from the fantastic range that this city has to offer.
