getting there

By train

Bernau and Wandlitz can be reached differently by train via Berlin.

Bernau has two train stations, the Bernau train station with both the Train about the Line S2 and the Regional train and the Regional Express over the routes RE3, RE66, RB24 reachable. On its way from Blankenfelde to Bernau, the S2 stops at Potsdamer Platz, Berlin Friedrichstrasse and Berlin Gesundbrunnen, among others. With all of the listed regional express (RE) or regional train lines (RB), in addition to Bernau Eberswalde to reach. On the RE3 you have to drive in the direction of Szczecin or (!) Stralsund or (!) Schwedt, whereas the RB24 goes in the direction of Eberswalde. The right direction for the RE66 is Szczecin.

Wandlitz also has two train stations, but is connected to Berlin via other routes. Here you can reach your goal via the Heather track also known as RB27. This can be reached via the Berlin Karow train station and leads to Wandlitz and Wandlitzsee as well Klosterfelde and Gross Schönebeck. Since this is the only railway line that connects Wandlitz with Berlin and this only runs every hour, it is also suitable with the bus to go to Bernau to come back to Berlin from there. Here the Line 894 towards Bernau S Bahnhof directly from the Wandlitz train station.

A Berlin ABC Ticket is required for all journeys from Berlin to Barnim and vice versa, which can be purchased at any ticket machine for € 3.80 (or € 2.70 reduced). This is valid for two hours after validation. (As of April 6, 2021)

activities

The slightly hilly landscape with wide forests and some lakes is particularly ideal for cycling tours.

Water and bike hiking on or on the Finow Canal

The old waterway can be used between Zerpenschleuse and Niederfinow. In the summer months, the historic locks on the 32 km long canal are open and the waterway is navigable. Information and a canal map can be found on the website of the municipal working group for the Finow Canal Region, to which the 10 local communities on the historic canal have come together. By the way, in 2011 a 3.1 km long connecting canal to the Werbellinseekanal was inaugurated. So you can now continue the canoe trip to the Werbellinsee without having to use the Oder-Havel waterway, which is used by large ships. By 2013 the Long junk can be made navigable again in the western connection to the historic Finow Canal.

The towpath has been partially expanded to a cycle path and thus enables beautiful tours along this historic waterway.
  • Rides with the historic steam train on the Heather track between Berlin-Karow (or Berlin-Wilhelmsruher Damm) to Basdorf
