background

This small fishing village on the south coast is about 16 km from the airfield. It was named until 1773 South side. The current name goes back to a soldier from Oliver Cromwell's army who was assigned land there, his name was Bodden. For many years it was the island capital. Around 1800 375 people lived there. It was only with the development of George Town5 that the place lost its importance. There was a fortification in Gun Square. These protective systems also included the “slave wall” or Drummond's wall. It was built by slaves.

In 1910, the Queen Victoria Monument was built in memory of the Queen. Gun Square and the Guard House at the entrance to the park of the same name are very close by. Behind Gun Square is another historic building, the Missionaries Mission House from around 1840.

The National Trust oversees the Bodden Town Guard House Park; He has made the Meagre Bay Pond, east of the city, a bird sanctuary.

  • Pirate's Caves & Mini Zoo. Tel.: 947-3122, Fax: 947-3122. The pirate caves are natural limestone caves that are located on the south coast of Grand Cayman, at the foot of the southern part of Bodden Town. However, the cave is intended as a sight for children up to 12 years of age. There is a talking parrot, petting zoo, and gift shop. There are plastic dinosaurs in the cave and imitation bones lying around on the floor. The caves are said to have led to below George Town, with openings to the sea. According to legend, pirate treasure is still hidden in the caves! Due to many storms in recent years, the openings to the sea have been filled in and the places with the treasures have been buried under the rubble.
