The Hainaut boot is a region of province of Hainaut. This region corresponds to the southern part of the province.
Understand
La Botte du Hainaut is a more rural and much wooded region than the rest of the province of Hainaut. The south of the region is part of the massif Ardennes.
Cities
- 1 Beaumont – City-stage, Beaumont is famous for its Salamander Tower which was burned by the French in 1655 and the English in 1691, its macaroons, but also for its legend of the Three Auvergnats. The three thieves would have disrespected Charles V. An hour after their arrival in town, the emperor is said to have hanged them. Hence the maxim, "Beaumont, ville de malheur." Arrived at noon, hanged at one o'clock ”.
- 2 Chimay – The city is home to the castle of the princes of Chimay and the Saints-Pierre-et-Paul collegiate church. Not far from there is the lake of Virelles, of great ornithological interest. But Chimay is mainly known thanks to the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Scourmont, where Trappist Cistercian monks make beer and cheese.
