Bouillante (creole: Bouyant) is a community in Guadeloupe.
background
This place on the central west coast has a close relationship with the Soufriere volcano, even if it is not directly on its slopes. It consists of the districts Bouillante, Malendure in the far north with the Galets Bay and Pigeon north of the place. The districts of Fromager and La Lisa also belong to Pigeon. The place Thomas with its hot springs is 2.5 km south. It is one of the oldest local foundations on the island from 1645. The English occupied the place in 1691. The name is probably due to the hot springs (up to 80 ° C.) that arise there and can also be found in the sea. The sources are so numerous that it was possible to build a geothermal power plant. Sugar cane is cultivated to the north of the village, and remains of cotton plantations can be found to the south. Coffee, cocoa, tobacco and vanilla are still harvested there today. There are very beautiful and protected reefs off the coast, which are popular as diving areas.
The renewed eruption of the volcano on the island Montserrat in February 2010 caused a mini tsunami here. There were waves up to 60 cm high that flooded many shops near the beach. Since then, the beaches have been littered with small and large stones that have washed up.

- L'Anse a Sable in Pigeon. Gray sand beach. There are several warm freshwater springs in the sea. The driveway is below the Chapelle de Pigeon.
- Petite Anse, south of Bouillante, towards Marigot. Narrow, gray, fine sandy, very well-kept beach with parking spaces and the possibility of picnics. The sea is very deep here. Access is chargeable.
- Plage de Malendure. In the far north, wide beach with black sand. There are several restaurants and beach bars as well as many water sports, including three diving schools and picnic areas.

In the street
Two roads lead from Pointe-a-Pitre to Bouillante. The longer route, almost 75 km, is national road 2, which leads near the coast over the northern tip of Basse-Terre. The shorter way is just 50 km long. This is National Road 1, which branches off to the south at Baie-Mahault and which 4 km later leads across the island to the west via the D23 county road.
