Brevard County is on the east coast of Florida. Due to the long coastline it belongs to the Atlantic Ocean, the offshore islands, the proximity to the greater area Orlando and the employment magnet of the spaceport and adjoining military base to the rapidly growing parts of Florida. Brevard County borders on the south Indian River County, in the southwest Osceola County, in the west Orange County and in the north Volusia County. To the east there is a long coast to the Atlantic.
The most famous attraction on this stretch of coast is the Kennedy Space Center: the spaceport from which all manned space flights in the United States have started since 1968.

getting there
The closest international airport with worldwide connections is Orlando International Airport(IATA: MCO) a good hour's drive west. That is a little closer Orlando Sanford International Airport(IATA: SFB)() with a selection of domestic US flights and some low-cost carriers.
In the district lies the Melbourne International Airport(IATA: MLB), which, contrary to its grandiose name, has only a few connections, including after Atlanta and Charlotte Has.
Interstate 95 and the U.S. 1 traverse the district in a north-south direction.
There is no rail link to Brevard County.
In Port Canaveral there is a large cruise port.
mobility
The Space Coast Area Transit operates a rudimentary bus network between and within several cities. The buses run almost every hour during the day, Monday to Saturday, only a few lines also run on Sundays. Realistically, the visitor will move around with the rental car.

1 Kennedy Space Center : the NASA spaceport. For safety reasons, most parts of the facility are not accessible to the public. The point of contact for visitors is Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex (Nasa Parkway West, Merritt Island, 10 km east of Rt. 1/5). The rush of visitors is enormous and is processed industrially, but this should not hide the fact that the visit is really very worthwhile. You should bring a whole day with you. Once the entry fee of $ 50 (children 3‒11 $ 40) has been paid, you have free access to the following options or departments:
- Information Central: If you are not sufficiently familiar with the English language, you can rent an audio guide here.
- Hardcore information for those hungry for knowledge:
- Early space exploration: Exhibition for Mercury program (1958 to 1963) and to Gemini program (1965/66).
- The general bus tour passes Start Complex 39 and then to a second visitor center (Apollo / Saturn V Center), in which one can find out more about the Apollo program - mainly through films. The original exhibits include a very impressive Saturn V rocket and a lunar module. Visitors can stay there and then take the bus back to the main complex. It takes 1½ 2 hours for this bus tour.
- Space Shuttle Atlantis: Multimedia presentations and interactive exhibits for the space shuttle program.
- Rocket Garden: Open-air exhibition with disused space rockets.
- Nasa Central: Information point where you can get the latest NASA news.
- Astronaut Encounter: Opportunity to talk to a veteran astronaut in person.
- Infotainment:
- IMAX: 3D cinema with films from the Hubble telescope and life on board the international space station. The films last about 40 minutes.
- Exploration Space: Multimedia presentations on space exploration. Hands-on experiments, theater and much more.
- Robot scouts: Multimedia presentation in which children and adults can learn about the principle of unmanned exploration of foreign planets.
- Shuttle Launch Experience: Simulator in which visitors can experience what it feels like to take off in a space shuttle.
- Entertainment:
- Children's Play Dome: Large play area for children.
- Angry Birds Space Encounter: Video games for all generations.
- Astronaut Hall of Fame (housed in a separate building on Vectorspace Blvd): A place of honor for astronauts, in which many memorabilia are on display. (Wikipedia)
In addition, the following additional options can be booked (for a fee):
- Lunch with an astronaut: Lunch with a retired astronaut.
- Various specialized bus tours on campus.
The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center is open daily, albeit at different times of the year. The complex has two cafés that also offer hot meals (fast food). If you want, you can also bring your own food. (Wikipedia article on the Kennedy Space Center)
Parking at the Visitor Complex is chargeable.
The closest places are Titusville, Port St. John and Cape Canaveral. The best selection of restaurants can be found in Titusville.
activities
- Canaveral National Seashore[1] - The longest pristine coastline in Florida is administered by the National Park Service. It is located north of the Kennedy Space Center and can be reached via Titusville.
- Sebastian Inlet State Park. On the island at the southern end of the county, Sebastian Inlet State Park offers a variety of outdoor activities, including wildlife viewing, fishing, camping, swimming, and more. It's one of the county's best surfing spots.
- beaches - Brevard County has tens of miles of pristine beach. The most famous area Cocoa Beach, has the smoothest and shallowest water and is a unique mecca for surfers across the country. The public beach opposite the entrance to Patrick Air Force Base is also a popular surfing spot. South of Satellite Beach to north of Indialantic there are rocks that tend to be submerged near the shore, which may or may not be a problem depending on the wave height, tide and season. There are times when the rocks are completely covered in sand and times when it is not. From the Indian antiquity to the Sebastian Inlet, the rocks are rarely seen. The sun and sand are just as appealing in every season. Public beaches [2] and parks are often accessible along the beach towns. The free county parks and city parks, where you can park for a reasonable fee, may also have amenities like showers, restrooms, and picnic pavilions. Pets and cars are not allowed on the beach, with the exception of dogs, which are at the south end of Canova Beach Park on the east end of Eau Gallie Blvd. allowed are.
- Cruises - Evening and extended cruises are available from Port Canaveral. These are particularly popular because of their casino facilities that are not available on land.
- fishing - Both fresh and salt water fishing is possible, please check the license requirements. Exciting deep water sport fishing and charter boats are available from private operators in Port Canaveral.
- golf - There are many golf courses
- water - Rent jet skis, ski boats, sailboats, canoes and kayaks. There are also flying boat tours of the St. Johns River (see alligators up close!). If you have your own boat then there are many public boat ramps and marinas throughout the county.
