Alliances

Brussels Airlines has been a member of the since December 2009 Star Alliance, the world's largest aviation alliance. Since the German Lufthansa initially holding 45%, and now holding 100% of the airline's shares, there are particularly close ties here. Brussels Airlines has been using Lufthansa's frequent flyer program, known as Lufthansa, since October 2009 Miles & More. Brussels Airlines also works with several other neutral airlines.

Route network and hubs

The airline's only hub is that Airport Brussels-Zaventem. From here she flies to many destinations in Europe, to Tel Aviv and especially to Africa. The airline is particularly well represented in West, Central and East Africa and, with Air France, is one of the two largest European companies on the continent.

fleet

Due to its history, the short-haul fleet consists of a relatively large mix of Avro RJ100, Boeing 737 and Airbus A319 aircraft. On long-haul flights, however, only Airbus A330-300 aircraft are used. Overall, the fleet consists of almost 50 aircraft with an estimated average age of around 13 years (as of July 2010).

Classes of carriage

On long-haul flights there is an economy and a business class. On the other hand, there are three classes on short-haul flights (Europe):

  • b.light economy is the cheapest option. Food and drinks can be bought on board for a fee.
  • b.flex economy is a middle variant. There are free newspapers, drinks and food here.
  • b.business is a full business class. There is better food, VIP parking and free champagne here.

Lounges

Brussels Airlines operates three of its own lounges at its home airport in Brussels. In addition, passengers can use the lounges of the Star Alliance partners. A business class ticket for the day in question or any flight ticket for the day in connection with Star Alliance Silver or Gold status (e.g. Miles & More Frequent Traveler) generally entitles you to lounge access. Gold members are allowed to take one guest into the lounge in Brussels.

Frequent flyer program

The Brussels Airlines bonus program is called Miles & More (German Miles and more) and was owned by the parent company Lufthansa accepted. As a passenger, you collect so-called award miles, which you can redeem for material assets, and status miles, which give you better service or other advantages at the airports and on board. Anyone can sign up for free on the program's website at www.miles-and-more.com Sign in. You can now use the Star Alliance Earn miles and there are many other partners with whom this is possible, such as rental car companies, hotels, insurance companies and newspaper subscriptions. There is also a Miles & More credit card with which you automatically collect one award mile for every euro you spend.

Award miles you collect on every flight or when you shop at one of the partners. These can then be exchanged for prizes in kind. These include, for example, free flights or upgrades to a better booking class (e.g. from Economy to Business), but also discounts with partners. The parent company Lufthansa operates its own chain of stores with branches at several airports, called World Shop. Here you can pay for all or some of the items with miles. You can also pay for goods sold on board with miles.

Status miles can only be earned on flights operated by Brussels Airlines and some partner airlines. The number of miles earned depends on the booking class and length of the flight route. The higher the class and the longer the route, the more miles you collect. The number of miles earned in a calendar year determines the customer's status. From 35,000 status miles you are Frequent traveler, from 100,000 / 130,000 miles senator and from 600,000 miles you get the status of a HON Circle Member. Depending on your status, you have various advantages, such as B. higher free baggage allowances, access to the respective lounges or priority at check-in.
