Urban centers
- Belogradčik (Белоградчик) - Town in the province of Vidin dominated by the medieval fortress of Kaletto, built between rocky spikes that reach a height of 200 m.
- Koprivštica - Picturesque town at over 1,000 meters above sea level with interesting architecture.
- Sofia (София) - The capital of the country.
- Vidin (Видин)
- Vratsa (Враца) - Town at the foot of the mountains of the same name, base for excursions to the picturesque surrounding villages.
Other destinations
- Borovec - Ski area equipped with 20 slopes and 10 ski lifts, is located at 1350 m a.s.l. 10 km from Samokov and 73 km from Sofia. In the past Borovec it has hosted an edition of the Biathlon World Championships (in 1993) and one of the Orientation Ski World Championships (in 2002), as well as various races of the Alpine Skiing and Biathlon World Cup.
