Békés is a city in the Békés county in Hungary.
background
Thanks to the excellent living conditions, the area was inhabited as early as the Neolithic Age. From a later period, the traces of various tribes such as archaeological evidence of the Celts and Avars. Around the year 1200 several documents mention the present town as the county seat, in the following centuries various landlords owned the area. In the 16th century, like almost everywhere in Hungary, there was an attack by the Ottoman conquerors and Békés and his province could only be liberated in 1695. In the middle of the 19th century, the river Körös was made safe by river straightening, an important procedure to ensure the safety of the city and its surroundings. The city has grown significantly to this day, but it has retained its small-town flair.

- Of Budapest From there, trains run in a controlled manner to the south-east to Békéscsaba1st class costs around 13 euros, 2nd class around 10 euros. Up to Békés itself in a northerly direction it is about 10 km to go by bus.

- Baptist Chapel
- Greco-Armenian Church
- The reformed church. It has been continuously expanded since 1732, and in 1905 the church was given its current design. The organ of the sacred building is the second largest of the Reformed churches in Hungary.
- Roman Catholic Church. Built in the baroque style in 1795.
- Former synagogue. Today town hall.
- Pentecostal Church

- Békés Gallery. Sculptures from antiquity that are worth seeing, albeit duplicated, are exhibited. The gallery is located in the neighborhood of the Jantyik Mátyás Museum, opening times see below.
- 1 Jantyik Mátyás Museum, Széchényi tér 6, 5630 Békés. The local history museum shows the everyday life and celebrations of the people from the region around Békés. Bird species from the Körös River area and contemporary paintings can also be seen.Open: Tue Fri 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Wed, Thu Sat: in the summer months 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., in the winter months 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.
