This small fishing village on the north coast has a beautiful, very narrow beach. The palm trees almost reach the shore. The Carib Indians called the whole area Batibou. From Calibishie you have a beautiful view over the sea to the French islands Guadeloupe and Marie-Galante.
2.5 km to the west, a cluster of houses forms the village Hampstead. It emerges from the plantation of the same name. This was measured in the 1760s and sold to a Londoner from the suburb of Hampsted. Sugar cane was grown on the plantation. The mill was operated with water power. The facilities have been preserved and are among the best examples of 18th century architecture. Sugar and rum from the plantation were shipped through its own small port on Hampsted Strand. For protection there was a small fortification with a cannon, this is now in Portsmouth. The plantation was sold for the first time at the end of the 19th century and has been owned by the Douglas family since 1946.
The small village stretches 4 km to the west Bense up the mountainside.
If you drive further west on the coastal road, you will reach the small town after 5 km Anse Du Mé at the bay of the same name. The square has been used as a harbor since 1982. With Canadian help, a pontoon bridge was built as a pier.
If you leave Calibishie in an easterly direction, after about 800 meters you pass the Pointe Baptiste, after another 800 meters you reach the bridge over the Hodges River, on which the plantation of the same name is located. Woodford Bay is 3 km to the east. The place Woodford Hill is about 500 m from the beach and a little bit inland and lives from agriculture. In the past there was intensive sugar cane cultivation there, today bananas are planted.
