The Barrancas del Cobre (Copper canyons) is a set of 6 distinct canyons in the Sierra Tarahumara in the southwestern part of theChihuahua State at Mexico.
Understand
The ensemble is larger and the canyons are deeper than the Grand Canyon in the United States. The canyons are formed by six rivers that drain the western slope of the Sierra Tarahumara (part of the Sierra Madre Occidental).
The six rivers meet in the Rio Fuerte and empty into the Sea of Cortez.
The cliffs of the canyon are green-copper which gave the name. It is at least, seven times larger than the Grand canyon ofArizona with which it is often compared.
Weather
At low altitudes, the climate is subtropical, with mild temperatures all year round. AT 2,500 meters, the climate is alpine to temperate. The hottest time of year is April to June, with temperatures often above 30 ° C and frequent droughts. The rains can, on the other hand, become torrential from July.
