Cap Corse - Cap Corse

Marking of the region on a satellite photo of the island

The Cap Corse is part of too France belonging island Corsica. It protrudes into the Mediterranean Sea in the north of the island and looks a bit like the index finger of a hand in aerial photographs. The northern tip of Cap Corse near Barcaggio is also the northern tip of the entire island.

Once around the cape, the region's main road, the D80, runs. Most of it runs along the coast and is a popular tour. The starting point of the tour is Bastia, Aim Saint Florent.

The cape is supposed to combine the beauties of the island (area east coast, mountains and steep west coast) in a small space.

Regions

The Cap Corse can be divided into east and west coast as well as the tiny north coast.

places

The historical places are mostly inland. There were small, associated villages on the coasts. To name them, the place name was often simply preceded by a Marine de hung (for example Sisco and Marine de Sisco). In the meantime, because of tourism, the coastal towns are usually more important than the villages in the hinterland and have therefore caught up with them in terms of growth.

Tourist Attractions

The Genoese tower of Erbalunga
  • Everywhere on the coast there are Genoese towers, which once served to guard the island from pirates. You can find them in different states all over the coastal road. A well-known example is the 1 Tour de Nonza, in contrast to almost all other towers, this one is square and not round.
  • The 2 Old town of Erbalunga is built close to a headland with a Genoese tower at the top (see above). The houses are a popular postcard motif. There is also a nice little fishing port there.
  • The 3 Moulin Mattei at Ersa is the only windmill in Corsica. From there you also have a beautiful view of the coast at Centuri-Port.
  • Above Luri is that 4 Tour de Sénèque, the ruin of a Genoese tower overlooking the coast.
  • At the 5 Col de Santa Lucia an old, abandoned church stands between Luri and Pino. There the road to the Tour de Sénèque begins (see above).
  • 6 Centuri port is a historic, small fishing village. There is no beach, but there are a few flat rocks from which you can snorkel.

activities

Swimming

There is a beach in practically every bay on the east coast, for example this is a long beach 1 Marine de Pietracorbara beach

These are rarer on the west coast, and you shouldn't bathe around Canari and Nonza because of the asbestos-contaminated beaches.

There is also a long beach on the short north coast: The 2 Barcaggio Beach extends from Barcaggio to the east. You can see the small Île de la Giraglia with the lighthouse in front of the coast.

hikes

The two highest mountains of the Cap Corse are the 1 Monte Stello (1,307 m) and the 2 Cima di e Fulicce (1,305 m). Both have a beautiful view of the sea, which can be seen from here on both sides.

The stretch between Marcinaggio and Barcaggio is best for coastal hikes because there is no coastal road here. You hike past remote bays, beaches and Genoese towers on an old customs path, hence the name of the hike 3 Sentier des Douaniers.

shop

In some places there are small supermarkets, otherwise you should check Bastia or Saint-Florent drive.
