The North Cape is a site located on Magerøya, an island located far north of the Norway. This site is considered to be the northernmost point ofEurope although this is not entirely correct.

Understand

Midnight sun in the North Cape

It is impossible for me to express in words this feeling of wonder that I experienced when crossing these sublime landscapes. (I leave it to others to do it).

The north cape is actually the point panoramic the northernmost in Europe, the northernmost point is the Knivsjellodden, the latter being a less obvious maritime landmark.

Regarding the midnight sun, the mist often prevents you from seeing it.

To go

By car

North Cape in winter

By road: Watch out for reindeer which roam free throughout northern Finland and Norway (and even on the North Cape Island). It is very common for these animals to be in the middle of the road and suddenly change course when trying to overtake them.

Access to the North Cape is via a tunnel under the sea that is 6,870 meters. For cycle tourists, be careful, many travelers have found this tunnel very dangerous when traffic is heavy, especially since it has a significant drop in height and is poorly lit (provide lights, reflective strips or other ... For motorized vehicles, this infrastructure is chargeable and the toll is located a little after exiting the tunnel (possibility of making a U-turn before).

The town of Honningsväg (on the island) has a petrol station. After crossing the island, there is again a toll which gives access to the tourist complex located on the cliff. Again, only motorized vehicles pay up to 195 NOK per passenger (August 2006 rate). This admission price allows access to a tourist building and parking for one night.

By bus

There are also many coaches that connect the North Cape to towns further south.

By plane

As for the plane, the nearest airport to the North Cape is at Honningsvag. Possibility to fly to Lakselv as well.

By train

The rail network does not serve these regions.

See

In the overheated tourist building on the cliff, one can find free toilets, a souvenir shop, restaurant, bar, chapel, post office, Thai museum and screening room. Large bay windows even allow you to watch the midnight sun while staying warm. I advise you to attend the screening (free, every hour or so) of a magnificent film which presents the site of the North Cape during the different seasons of the year.
