Chasab is a city in Oman, it is the capital of the governorate Musandam and is on the Strait of Hormuz.

background

Chasab is surrounded by the northwestern foothills of the Hajar Mountains. Due to its location, it was isolated for a long time. In the 16th century it was conquered by the Portuguese who built a fortress here to secure the route to their eastern colonies. After the departure of the Portuguese, the city was ruled by Oman, not least because of its strategically important location on the Strait of Hormuz. An important branch of the city's economy is the port, here sheep and goats are imported from Iran and transported to the UAE via the modern coastal road. In return, well-packed boxes with technical goods leave Oman for Iran.
